  • All businesses involved in trade must register with ZIMRA as per Section 25A of the Income Tax Act (Chapter 23:06).
  • This section defines a registered taxpayer as someone who has registered a company, private business corporation, partnership, trust, NGO, pension fund, or other legal entity.
  • Upon registration, a taxpayer will receive a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN).
Every importer or exporter of commercial goods, whether an individual or a company, must register with ZIMRA before engaging in commercial importation or exportation activities.
Starting from 1 January 2024, traders are required to register for VAT if the value of taxable supplies exceeds or is expected to exceed US$25,000 or its equivalent in local currency within a 12-month period.
  • All employers are legally obligated to register with the National Social Security Authority (NSSA).
  • Registration with NSSA is mandatory for both formal and informal sector employers.
  • NSSA administers two schemes:
    • The Workers Compensation & Insurance Fund (WCIF) is entirely funded by employers and provides benefits to employees or their beneficiaries in case of workplace injuries or death.
    • The National Pension Scheme, funded jointly by employers and employees, offers benefits for retirement, invalidity, or death to employees or their beneficiaries.
  • The Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) oversees and regulates procurement procedures for government departments, ministries, and parastatals.
  • To conduct business with the government, an organization must be listed in the government suppliers' database.
  • Registration with PRAZ automatically includes an organization in the government suppliers' database.
  • Entities can register for multiple categories based on their capabilities and capacity to deliver.
  • The National Employment Council (NEC) represents the interests of employers' and employees' organizations.
  • Established by the Labour Act Chapter 28:01 Section 56, the NEC's functions include preventing and resolving labor disputes, negotiating industry minimum wages and collective bargaining agreements, among others.
  • Various NECs exist for different industries like the Commercial Sector, Mining Sector, Catering Industry, etc.
  • Registration with the relevant NEC for your industry is mandatory for employers in Zimbabwe with at least 10 employees.
  • NEC registered employers must submit monthly returns and payments, with both employer and employee contributing 0.50% of the salary to the NEC.
  • Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (ZIMDEF) is a statutory organization mandated to promote the development of critical and highly skilled human capital in Zimbabwe.
  • ZIMDEF registration is mandatory in Zimbabwe for manpower development purposes.
  • ZIMDEF is funded by a monthly 1% training levy tax based on a company's gross payroll, including salaries, allowances, benefits, and bonuses.
  • Obtain a clearance certificate for the sale of immovable property and specified assets.
  • Required for title deed changes.
